Quintessary

Aw, my final post of the workshop.

Had a great time.

Imagine if there was a 5D figure...it'd be crazy.

Length, height, depth, time, ?.

Who knows? Maybe I'll continue.

See ya ~ACaplan

Tesseractary

Anybody heard of a tessseract? Supposedly, it's a 4D figure made up of six cubes the way a cube is comprised of six squares. But instead of sitting around, it folds and shifts in on itself constantly.

Like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:8-cell-simple.gif

I still need a topic for this blog. Still no suggestions?

Caplan is the 13,837th most popular last name, according to namestatistics.com. That gives me some sort of uniqueness, right? Try out your last (or first) name!

Apparently, Smith is the most common.

Tertiary

Okay, I have to choose a better name for these blog posts. I have a little bit of time (and using a computer (though not my MacBook :( ), so I might as well talk a little about my last name.

Long story short: I'm not exactly a Caplan.

In Judaism, last names are indicators of class, from Israelites, the most populous, to Cohains, the priests. When my ancestors (three generations ago, I think) came over here, the paternal one wanted to make ourselves Cohains. Problem was, when he went to Ellis Island, he knew little English, so whomever recorded his named changed it to "Caplan."

Interesting, right?... I think it is. So, what's my last name, you ask? Good question. I don't know either. Some sources suggest that it's either Thor or Thaw, but no one really has any evidence whatsoever. I'd love to know.

Fun fact: depending on which immigration spot Caplans went to, the name spelling was different. In New York, it's a C, but in Boston, it's a K.

Fun fact #2: If you know a Cohen, they're part of the Cohain. Levys are Levites, second-tier. I don't know what Thor/Thaw would be, but I think the ones ending in -stein or -feld, etc., are Israelites.

Secondary

I realized I actually did have an "enter" button, turns out, so ...

yeah ...

i need to give this blog some life, don't I? maybe i should've thought about it when I made it. Well, it's called "The Life of a Caplan," but there're soooo many 'about me' blogs. I need to do something different.

Any suggestions?

I guess I could start with my last name. It actually has some history to it. But I'll save that for next time.

Startup

Hey, new audience, I'm Andrew Caplan, and I'm going to attempt over the next couple days to talk about daily life. But of course you knew that, why would you be on this blog in the first place? *sigh* Anyway, this is ultra hard to type because I'm using my new phone (LG EnV Touch if you cared) and all of the computers in this lab I'm in are being used. Yay for technology then! Sorry for not using any spaces, I don't have an ENTER button ... Let's see how this goes, alright? See you in a little~ ACaplan
